Running Together
Tonight we had a W351 prayer meeting – I met up with Birdie, Jireh (who was a little late), Samuel and Wendy.
There were a number of reasons not to go:
1. The prayer meeting was at Toa Payoh (!). I live in Pasir Ris and I hate standing on the bus and MRT, enough said.
2. I am not a nocturnal person. Brain wave activity slows down from 4pm onwards, scientifically proven.
3. I was tired, I am not a very energetic person – think of a very ancient tortoise. My sister and I went to my former company to collect our cheque, undergo the exit interview, go back to Pasir Ris, drop off some parcels (including Bunny’s!), buy fruits, return library books, and buy our Mom an international calling card. I arrived home at about 4:50 pm. If I were to reach Toa Payoh by 7 pm I would have to leave my house by 6 pm.
4. The sky looked foreboding. I only relish the rain when I am inside the comforts of my room.
There were acceptable reasons why I can’t go (in my opinion).
But in the recent weeks, I have been really praying for God to really give me a burden for the cellgroup as I was veering off to the apathetic side. I decided to go instead, as Jerb said, if we pray corporately we catch the vision individually.
I took a power nap of 20 minutes as soon as I reached the flat. I woke up before even the alarm did! And I felt refreshed. The weather didn’t seem to pick up. So I prayed under my breath, “God please don’t rain, if it does, please rain when I am safe on dry ground with a roof over my head”. It rained hard when the train was at Simei.
We went to Sam’s Dad’s office – with a really industrial looking smell and environment. There were some drilling machines, tanks and a lot of metal, and there were some pipes hanging overhead us when we went to freshen up – I told Wendy it felt like I was in a Final Destination movie. Not good to be thinking about that before a prayer meeting!
Anyway, I’m glad I came.
Praying for the cellgroup really touched my heart. Yes, at first it was just four of us, and it’s kinda – a low point but a place of agreement is a place of power right? And there were more than two of us to agree in prayer!
What touched me a lot was that God impressed my heart with this simple thing about cellgroups.
