Journaling Technique : Opposite Page
April 21, 2008
I have been journaling regularly now. Most of the time I’m a pure text journaler, as I had been for most of my life, then I started to include ephemera from my everyday life. This started in uni, when I attended symposia, film showings, and a lot of org/frat/soro and I stapled/pasted/glued all those tickets and invites on my journal. From there, colours, doodles, magazine clippings and lots of glue were needed for me to journal.
This uber coloured page is what I call Opposite Page. I made this page at one of the craptastic points of my life. I was sad, stressed, tired and very apathetic.
I wanted to journal, but I didn’t want to journal any of the negtavity that I was feeling, because it seemed so tiring. So I thought to myself, why not make a spread that is OPPOSITE of what I was feeling?
I took out a magazine, watercolours, paintbrushes, markerpen brushes, a glue stick and scissors. It took me about one week to complete this spread and I find it very stress relieving, to be feeling bad and create something so positive out of it.
But I don’t dare try this when I’m feeling top of the weather though!
And congratulations to Dani, her artwork was displayed at the MDC art show:
