EDIT: LAMININ was mentioned in today’s sermon 01/06/08

Lately, I haven’t been blogging a lot. I just don’t feel the need to blog. Certain things have happened in my life which an explanation won’t cover. There has been a lot of DOWN times lately, and I promised myself I won’t blog about negativity and being depressed in the moment.

But this has greatly blessed me…LAMININ:

According to Wikipedia, Laminin is

Laminin is the major non-collagenous component of the basal lamina, such as those on which cells of an epithelium sit.[1] Basically, laminin is a protein found in the “extracellular matrix”, the sheets of protein that form the substrate of all internal organs also called the “basement membrane”. It has four arms that can bind to four other molecules. The three shorter arms are particularly good at binding to other laminin molecules, which is what makes it so great at forming sheets. The long arm is capable of binding to cells, which helps anchor the actual organs to the membrane.

And you may say, HUH?

Check this video where Louie Giglio talks about Laminin:

And singing, How Great Is Our God really gives new meaning to me…

Eventhough I rarely have people comment on my blog, it’s nice to know that I have caught the attention of spammers. In less than twenty-four hours, this blog has received 23 spam comments.

WOW!

I just want to say that yesterday’s prayer meeting was by far the MOST awesome prayer meeting that I have ever attended. There’s so much I want to share with y’all but I need to collect my thoughts first. You know how nothing is ever a coincidence?

Let’s just say that on Saturday I was bawling my eyes out on God and it continued to the next day.

I will make a proper post soon!

Pictures of small sewn books that I have been making. I like sewn books because of the way they lie flat when you write on them. It also gives a more durable ‘feel’ compared to stapled/punched books.

All of the materials used are recycled. For the first set of pictures :

1.  The boards which I used to form the book covers came from the cardboard that you get in a stationery pack. I collect stationery for my correspondence and I just couldn’t bear to throw anything away. Yes, I also use the plastic packet that the stationery came in! Nothing is wasted!

2. The multi-coloured cover is actually a scrap piece of gift wrap!

3. The red spine cover is an excess piece of cardstock from a  birthday card project.

4. And the paper for the signatures, is actually a big piece of white board paper that was supposed to be part of a decorating project.

The second book is the first time I’ve ever done an exposed stitched book. I couldn’t find suitable bead to cover the head and the tail ends so it kinda looks weird.

This book has four signatures of pink and violet paper, and it also has flaps on the cover.

The multi-colored one took an hour to make, with all the cutting, sewing and gluing.

The old rose covered book was more time consuming because I lost my bookbinding needles! I experimented with my curved beading needle ( I poked my fingers with it a few times!) and finally settling on an ordinary sewing needle with an eye big enough to accommodate a double stranded thread.

I’m happy because my bookbinding skills have improved, especially when making holes on the spine and signatures. I used a hammer to force this itty bitty needle to make holes before. Since I couldn’t find an awl, I bought a bodkin, now poking holes is easier.

When it comes to cutting, sewing, gluing, and hammering, I enjoy these things a lot. I do find measuring stuff a bit tedious! I have no patience at all. I have to be very relaxed and well concentrated. Plus, I need a spacious amount of room when measuring and marking.

I would “guesstimate”! Sometimes I end up getting it accurate, but the usual scenario is I will be left with unusable pieces of crap…err scrap.

If I can get good enough at this I can make my own journal! That is my ultimate goal.

If I could edit clips of life,

I’d take all the moments where we were together

Assemble them all in one large file

And it would warm me in stormy weather.

I just tried this last Monday….

poem excerpt:

Kathryn Doozleheim

I just noticed that a few of my recent posts, here and here have been all about music that I have been listening to.

Let me introduce you to She & Him. She is Zooey Deschanel. She is the reason why I was intrigued to pick up this album. The first film that I saw her in was Almost Famous, I don’t know but I really think she’s pretty, in an Old Hollywood way. I heard her first sing in Elf, where she was Will Ferrell’s love interest. She also played Sarah Jessica Parker’s best friend in Failure to Launch.

Him is M. Ward, a singer-songwriter, please refer to Wikipedia because I really do not know much about him!

Anyway, according to Wikipedia, the tracklist includes:

  1. “Sentimental Heart” – 2:36
  2. “Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?” – 2:31
  3. “This Is Not a Test” – 3:31
  4. “Change Is Hard” – 3:03
  5. “I Thought I Saw Your Face Today” – 2:50
  6. “Take It Back” – 2:37
  7. “I Was Made For You” – 2:31
  8. You Really Gotta Hold on Me” (Smokey Robinson) – 3:59
  9. “Black Hole” – 2:12
  10. “Got Me” – 2:46
  11. I Should Have Known Better” (Lennon/McCartney) – 3:39
  12. “Sweet Darlin’” (Deschanel, Jason Schwartzman)- 2:41
  13. Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” (trad.) – 1:37

Zooey Deschanel actually wrote all of the songs, otherwise noted.

The songs aren’t like the usual songs that I listen to. It’s a major departure from Coldplay, Modest Mouse and Death Cab. However, I alos have begun to like Kimya Dawson, so this just broadens my musical tastes.

I like Black Hole a lot. Especially the line, “But I’m stuck here getting misty over you ,I’m alone on a bicycle for two”.

Anyway, these songs are my commute songs, and I sometimes catch my foot tapping to the beat of the songs. And if I did not restrain myself, I would have done a lot of body swaying.

Think of balmy summer nights outside,on your backyard, picnic tables all cleared up, lights hanging overhead, a group of guys playing their guitars and people dancing !

One of my snail mail pals has the habit of enclosing poems in her letters, this poem by 2pac is very inspiring:

Between the Concrete

Did you hear about the rose that grew
from a crack in the concrete?
Proving nature’s law is wrong it
learned to walk with out having feet.
Funny it seems, but by keeping it’s dreams,
it learned to breathe fresh air.
Long live the rose that grew from concrete
when no one else ever cared.
