“and I wrote: Friends,
if you wish to survive
I would not recommend
Love”
- I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND LOVE, harold norse
A new batch of Things I Love! It’s another Tuesday but we’re now starting the second half of this year. One of my goals is to end 2009 better than 2008! So excited!
☆ Another quote, this time from Robert A. Heinlen, I can barely make the requirements!
“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”
☆ Caitlyn Shearer. She’s an incredible painter barely 20 years old, she blogs and has an Etsy shop. These are some of my faves from her work:
☆ 100 Incredible Lectures from the World’s Top Scientists. Didn’t see this coming didn’t ya? My renewed interest in Psychology and Neurology (the dreaded subject) sparked this sudden urge to fill my brain other than Asian pop culture information. My favourite?
Helen Fisher studies the brain in love (2008)
Why do we crave love so much, even to the point that we would die for it? To learn more about our very real, very physical need for romantic love, Helen Fisher and her research team took MRIs of people in love — and people who had just been dumped.
I love the way she presents this talk! Other notables are How the Body Fights Infection, Richard Dawkins on our ‘queer’ universe and Stephen Hawking asks big questions about the Universe.
☆ Jinx is an Austrian who lives currently in New Zealand. I love the colours that she uses in her artwork:

☆ Reading…on the bus: Yes, I know it will only trigger motion sickness, but these past few years, I’ve become conscious of wasted time applicable to clinic waiting rooms, long queues and bus rides. I’d be reading until I feel like I’m about to throw up, but I love how I’m also going on a “journey” while reading a book at the same time I’m commuting. I can see how “far” I’ve gone in a book.
☆ Etsy Goodness. I like Etsy a lot, it’s where I find inspiration for DIY goodness. I love PiperRiley’s hairpieces and bracelet:

☆ DAWN’S BLOG: Since I’ve been bitten by the DIY bug I’ve been attracted to DIY/crafty blogs, one most recent blog I’ve been following is Dawn’s cute blog full of art and craft.
☆Posture-wise: I have bad posture but not as worse as when I was in primary school, scared of becominng bent over by the time I reach my 30s I did some damage control, my back isn’t as straight as a rod but at least I don’t stoop anymore. But I didn’t know that there was a proper way to stand up…hmmm, I need more practice!
☆ My introduction to Asian pop is relatively new, think seven months, so most of the stuff that I recommend comes from an untarnished and immature take on the artistes and their songs. One of my favourite female singers (because I rarely like female singers) is Younha (고윤하). She’s a South Korean singer who also achieved success in Japan. She’s very versatile because she can do something as sweet as 1,2,3 or rock it out in Break Out. One of her Japanese releases can be seen below:
☆ And sharing this poem again, because ee cummings is awesome!

Have a GREAT WEEK!

The train is fine but I still can’t get used to reading on the bus or car. It just makes me very sick and i guess i would rather sacrifice that bit of time than let it spoil my entire day. I am pathetic. Haha.

It just takes a bit to get used to, but yea, it’s not for everyone! Glad to see you blogging again!

I can now tolerate reading in vehicles quite well, but it wasn’t easy “learning” how to do it! I experienced the motion sickness too.
But I have too many books on my to-read list right now (due to bad habit of buying books despite knowing I don’t have enough time to read them all LOL). I grab every chance I get to read; it takes me about an hour to reach the office and 45 minutes to get home. That’s enough time to finish two medium-length chapters!
I read around 55% of Norwegian Wood while commuting to and off work. LOL.
